Five months old today!

Garrett turned five months today and has apparently learned to sit up unsupported! A few days ago he would only last a couple of seconds . . . how he can do it for a minute plus!

He has also been talking with Grandma Sherry and Grandma Becky on the internet--thanks to the way-cool webcams Grandma Sherry got us! He was so happy to see his grandmas, and the feeling appeared to be mutual!

Pardon the goofy look in the photo--I took a ton, but this is the only one that didn't have some part of a doggie in it!

So happy five month Birthday, sweet pea! You are getting way to big!!

Garrett's first Halloween Costume

No, he isn't a floppy eared bunny rabbit! I made this costume, which is why he looks rather like a bunny rabbit. But Garrett told me he wanted to be just like his big brother for Halloween. So we made him a weimaraner costume!

Can you see the resemblence??
How 'bout now?

Happy Howll-oween everyone :-D

Pumpkin Carving

We carved the pumpkin we got from the pumpkin patch on Wednesday night, when Daddy got home. It was the first time in a LONG time I had done that. Pardon my hubby's chest, I keep telling him I have a lot of pictures of him with no shirt!!

Anyway, Garrett (and Aspen) thought it was great fun. Garrett was obsessed with touching the pumpkin. He really wanted to play with the "Pumpkin guts," as Brad calls them, to which Daddy's response was EWWW, GROSS.

We rosted pumpkin seeds and I am going to TRY to make a pie from scratch. We will see how that goes!

In the beginning

Aspen really wanted to help
Garrett wanted to climb inside

Investigating the finished product

We started solids :-(

On Wednesday, Garrett had his first introduction to solid foods . . . he was 3 days shy of five months at the time. I really had every intention of waiting until he was 6 months to get him started, but he has been super-interested in our food now for well over a month, and was no longer satisfied with his sippy cup and a spoon anymore. So he had his first meal of sweet potatoes. He really enjoyed them. I, on the other hand, am sad, because it means he is growing up too fast! But he really enjoyed it so I

Pumpkin Patch

Garrett and I went to a Pumpkin Patch on Tuesday with our Mom's group to pick out his very first pumpkin for his very first Halloween. One of the mommas, Megan, is a very talented photographer, and she took some great pics of the little guy enjoying the pumpkins. Grandmas, I have these images in higher resolution--apparently too high for blogger :-D Will be sure to get them to you soon! At any rate, we had a great time!

Almost forgot

With all the excitement of going to Dad's, I forgot to mention that Haylee had an agility trial the weekend before we left. Mostly, I messed her up, but we still had a good time. She got her second AX leg and took 2nd. One more to go! That's all for now--taking a break from lab work, but now its back to the drudgery!

Our trip to Grandpa's house

This past week, Garrett and I made our first big trip alone. We flew to Colorado to see my Dad. My grandma, who I haven't seen in 10+ years, was in town from Iran. My Dad, his wife, and my brother Ali had been waiting to come visit Garrett until Grandma could make it, but it took longer than expected and now Ali is back in school. So Garrett and I flew to Denver to spend 5 days with Grandpa, Nana 'Dina, Uncle Ali, and Ma'ma Bizorg.

It was sooo cold while we were there--in fact, it even SNOWED! Brrrr! (See the white stuff in the picture above?? There wasn't much, but it was definately there. Garrett's first snow!) Even so, Garrett had a blast learning Farsi from Ma'ma Bizorg, learning to play the piano and drums with Uncle Ali, and hanging out with his Grandpa. We even got to here Uncle Ali play at a band concert! Sorry there are so many pics, but there are so many cute ones (and more to download).

Playing with Grandpa
Ya don't say?? (Notice the ball in his hands--he is getting such a good grip on things!)
Ma'ma Bizorg telling me a story

ME telling Ma'ma Bizorg a story.

Whenever Garrett would talk to his Ma'ma Bizorg, she would say "Tell me a story". He also wanted to tell her a story at Ali's band concert, but she told him "No story right now" and Garrett listened to the band instead. He enjoyed his first band concert, even though it was wayyy past his bedtime!

Ali giving Garrett his first piano lesson.
Garrett LOVED to listen to Ali play the piano . . . to say that my little bro is a talented musician is an understatement, but then, his momma is a music teacher!
Now its time for a percussion lesson!

What do you do with a baby who is up at 5am Local time in the morning and ready to play, when it is too cold to go outside and he is bored with everything else? Why, you play with the faucet and lounge in the bathroom sink, of course! :-D

Garrett did really well with the two long flights back--as long as we were up and moving around. He made friends with ALL the flight attendants on the plane. We had a longer than expected layover in DC, but Garrett was happy just laying on the floor playing with his feet and sticking his poppin' car (a gift from our pal from work Sidney and her girls) in his mouth. He had lots of people coming over to play with him and talk with him, including several daddies who were travelling on business and missing their own little cutie pies.

Garrett was SO glad to see his Daddy and the puppies again. He wasted no time getting back to his old routine . . . he's been such a good boy! But we are very glad to be home for a while, after a whirl-wind couple of months. We shouldn't be going anywhere major until January, when we all head to St. John with Grandma Becky, Grandma and Grandpa, and Aunt Stephanie. Can't wait!

Until next time,
Hugs, baby drool and puppy kisses.

REALLY Rollie-pollie

Just had to share . . . I was working in the office at home this afternoon. Garrett was laying on his tummy on his pretty quilt Nana made him by the window. I was workin' away. Next thing I know I look down, and there is a lil baby by my feet. Apparently he rolled across the room (just like Aspen!) :-D Oh. My. Goodness! These pics are from 10/5 . . . they seemed to fit well enough!

Other than that, not much new. I chopped my hair off because it is falling out (see the next post for a pic of that). Gotta love motherhood! Hugs, Puppy kisses and baby drool, until next time!

Adventures of the Sippy Cup

Lately, Garrett has been obsessed with putting his hands in our plates and wanting whatever is in our cups. . . he isn't old enough for solids yet, at least not in my book, but I did get him a sippy cup so he could drink either a little water or even some breastmilk like the big boy he wants to be. Only problem is, Garrett was much more interested in trying to suck on the SIDE of the sippy cup. The ice-cold water must have felt good on his gums! So okay, teether it is, until he feels the need to try to drink from the top. Silly little man. In my search for the sippy cup, I bought lots of fun actual teethers . . . and clothes. Yeah, spent too much $, the hubby isn't gonna be thrilled when he gets home :-D

Play date!

Yesterday Garrett and I got together with my friend Adrianne and her son, Cody. Adrianne and I used to work together, and Cody is just a few months older than Garrett. We went out for a bite then went to the park to play . . . the boys had a great time. Adrianne was nice enough to let Garrett and I bum a ride with her and Cody, which made for an entertaining trip. Neither of the boys has ever ridden in the car with another baby before. Garrett loves fuss when he gets in the car, so every time we got in, he would cry, which would then get poor Cody crying, then my silly little man would go to sleep! It was quiet an adventure, and tons of fun! By the end of the day, they were both EXHAUSTED! (And so were the mommies!)

Rollie Pollie

Last night, Garrett explored every corner of his crib by rolling around. He went down early (around 6:30) and woke up at about 9 on his face. When I put him back to bed, he rolled around his crib for at least half an hour, and had a grand ole time doing it. He woke up twice more flat on his face and very unhappy about it! Silly little man. I really do wonder how I am going to keep up with him when he gets older!
